Air pollution in the present times is the major environmental problem which is being faced by the world. A large number of countries are being invariably impacted because of this problem and have to face a number of challenges. China is one such nation that the problem of air pollution is vast. There are a large number of sources of air pollution in China. The problem of air pollution in China is so extreme that it was reported as a result of the pollution, there is cancellation of many airplane flights. Some of the primary sources of Air Pollution in China include the vehicles, industries, aero planes and straw. Straw is a form of biomass which is left unutilized. This is because it doesn’t have any useful materials. Straw is produced from the production of some of the crop plants which includes wheat, rape seed and cotton.

In China, this biomass is generally burnt. This leads to the lot of air pollution. In this report, the discussion will be focused on the burning of straw in China, the harmful effects of the same and the ways to prevent straw burning. Straw burning is one of the major sources of air pollution in China. This problem is much more evident in the months of May and June, whenever there is the double cropping of winter wheat and rape seed crops with rice. As a result of burning of straw crops, there is generation of the black carbon which further leads to the deterioration of air quality in the nearby cities. In 2011, it was found that because of the air pollution from straw burning, there were severe levels of air pollution in the cities of Yangtze valley region. The straw burning has been consistently practiced in China.
