Visual cognition is the methodical process undertaken by the brain based on the visual sensory images and responses (Rayner, 2012). It is an intricate process that involves accurate functioning of the sensory nerves and stimuli. Fundamentally the eyes sense the images using the light rays. These light rays conform into different sizes, shapes and colours. Owing to this the brain organizes the information that has been garnered. Then based on the images presented the brain then conforms and responds in the form of stimuli or is elucidated in the behavioural expression of the people (Rayner, 2012).
These steps that the brain performs can occur in a matter of few milliseconds. Interestingly it has been observed that individuals have an interesting sense of selective perception. Reasons for selective perception is due to environmental surrounding of the people in the societies. This selective perception allows individuals to understand the situation based on what they sub-consciously or consciously choose to look.
