In the case of the WCC North America line distribution management, there will be improvement in their distribution line productivity. Information system line tracking would be helpful for the distributors to plan ahead their operations. Information systems would be helpful for them to manage risks as well. Again training would be a central issue. The WCC North America customers would face the maximum benefits here. The WCC North America customers would be able to track their products real time and hence there would be much transparency in the working of WCC. Currently the bottleneck issue presented for WCC is that its consumers are not satisfied.
If the proposed changes are implemented successfully, then WCC would be able to integrate its sales and marketing with its operations. At present there are many divisions in WCC where vital information on forecasting trends and more are being generated, but might not be used directly to improve demand forecasting for supply chain management. This becomes possible for WCC now. Secondly, the centralized information management system would be useful for the company to understand where they could improve on inventory management better.
Performance across four product groups is seen to be variable over the years. Some reported not much change or declining performance and others are seen to have better profits, volume and opportunities. Now WCC would be able to address these issues. The case study reads that industry overcapacity continue to be an issue. Intelligent inventory management would now be possible with WCC.
Information processing arrangements might require some form of internal change for the organization. Firstly, it would be recommended that that WCC get ready for a major organizational change by becoming change ready. WCC could do this by either working with their employees or processing organizational behaviour change or it could train subsets of employees first and then slowly work their way across different divisions. Secondly, a major change that would be recommended for WCC North America’s information processing arrangements is that the divisions based on product line must start to work in a more integrated way. Different product lines and employees must not consider productivity in their lines only. They should consider how to improve productivity in an integrated way for the company. Sharing of critical information between the divisions, along with authorization issue based solutions is required.
