There are two forms of organizational structure it is the mechanistic and organic structure. Mechanistic is a more formal approach that is based on bureaucratic linkages. Organic structure is a more dynamic structure. IN BHP there are executive functional groups that control the organizational structure. The company is actually mechanistic in operations and now they are trying to shift towards a more organic structure. Mechanistic structure has more organizational control and follows the hierarchic chain of processes. Recently, the company CEO has stated that they want to shift operations to a more agile organize style.
This is a recommended process that has been suggested in the current dynamic time. Nevertheless in this process of conversion to a more agile style there should be proper transparency and accountability of processes. BHP should not compromise on its existing ideology for the same. Owing to this it has been suggested that the company shifting operations to a more organic style is welcomed but it should not lose its competitive advantage by not having proper documentation of reducing in their quality of final deliverables.
