A number of researches have expressed concern of the lacking in interaction between the domestic students and the international students. The interviews of the international students reveals, that the lacking of the integrated contacts with domestic students have been the causes of dissatisfaction for the international students in relation to their experience with the social factors. The researches have been showing the great difficulties of the international students to communicate and establish meaningful relations with respect to the local students (Wang & Webster 2004). However, it is unclear relating to the extent of which severity of the situations is being viewed by the international students themselves. Smart, Volet and Ang (2000) have been concluding that despite the low awareness, administrative and the academic awareness is growing regarding the lacking of the on-campus social interaction causing problems for the foreign students.
Ward (2001) has been pointing out a different angle that all relevant researches have focused on the international students’ perspective, rather than on the perspective of the domestic students. He went on to further reveal that investigation have found out that local students shows lack of interest to initiate contact with the foreign students on their campuses. His conclusion has been that interventionist approach should be implemented to create intercultural exchanges and activities that not very likely to occur normally in the Australian universities. Spencer and Rogers (2001) have been indicating that the local students have perceived the international students such as Chinese students in the form of a homogeneous group discouraging the forming of the association between the two groups. There is need for greater understanding in facilitating interaction between the Chinese and domestic students at the individual level.
Further research should be undertaken with the students in the university that is the administrator of the social media groups, the tutors in the university tutorials, or is the class representative belonging to the Chinese community for in-depth understanding of the problems faced by QBD and the students.
