Gehry recognized in the world of architecture was his own house in Santa Monica in 1978 . He renovated his house in such a way that it spoke every element of Frank O. Gehry’s approach towards architecture and design.
Frank Gehry’s style of work
Deconstructivism style is dominant in Frank Gehry’s work. Deconstructivism is a postmodern architectural approach which refers to the style in which there are dislocated elements of structures and envelops, non- symmetric and non- rectilinear shapes, and manipulated surface of architecture. The dominant element in many of the buildings of Frank Gehry is controlled chaos and deconstructive approach, such as Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland in Ohio. Another example of such deconstructive approach of work is Cleveland Clinic in Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
The piles of boxes strategy is depicted in three residential towers constructed in Toronto, Canada and Iowa Advance Technology Laboratory in United States. The later building was constructed in 1992. The arrangement of cubes in a pile is again refers to deconstructive approach because of being randomly arranged in cubes. This randomness adds to the uniqueness in Frank Gehry’s work.
