This method involves the persona interviewing of 8 participants who would be taking part willingly and at their will. The reference will be received through common friends who would refer to the willing participants, because the results and the quality of answers is more reliable when it is through a reference instead of a random selection (Cooper and Schindler, 1998). They will be personally asked about their usage of metaphors and the common reaction of love, anger, and happiness. The participants out of 8 will have 4 each from Australia and Chinese origin and be speaking native English language.
Following will be some of the questions that will be asked:
1. What is the difference you notice in using metaphors of anger, happiness, and love between your mother tongue and the English spoken by the Chinese?
2. How often have you had a miscommunication or misunderstanding due to a different emotional metaphor used for the same reaction as you would use?
3. As a Chinese English speaking person, what is the primary difference do you see in your reaction to a similar situation than the Australians speaking English?
These are some of the questions that will be asked in addition to more questions as it comes and originates depending on the direction of the conversation (Pickard, 2007).
Idioms
Idioms are mere expressions with a specific meaning that is desired to be transferred to the listener (Glucksberg & McGlone, 2001). With the idioms, it is easier to study the use of reactions and the body language that is used during expressing the meaning to the listener (Kennedy and Gioia, 2013). This particular study will investigate the expressions and the body language used by Australians and the Chinese during their display of a meaning of anger or love or happiness. This study will give very interesting results and the way the language has a hold on the expressions shown. The expressions speak a lot about the intention of the expresser because without words he or she is trying to convey a meaning to the opposite person (Agis, 2011). The study will include some common reaction observation after informing a new which is capable of demanding an expression.
