Product process matrix has an array bearing a horizontal dimension. The horizontal dimension has a representation of the volume and variety range.The range is from the low volume products all the way to the high volume consisting of the highly standardized products.The vertical dimension of the product-process matrix is a representation of the manufacturing process. This interpretation comprises of the casual input to batching tasks then to mass production and finally the continuous process (Chandra & Kamrani,2004). The combination of product and process may assume different matrix portions. The extreme parts of the upper right side and the bottom left areas of the matrix are however the default areas of representation taken by the product and process as shown in the figure below (Ahmad &Schroeder, 2002) .The technological and product life cycle are relationships that analysed through the volume variety matrix tool. The authors of the matrix use it in assessing the similarity between marketing and manufacturing and enable good understanding of company’s strategic options. There are two dimensions of the matrix and they are process and product lifecycles.

The process of production is used in the manufacturing of products as they move through various stagesof manufacturing process similar to different stages in the market.The process starts with great flexibility, costly process and develops towards increased standardisation, automation and mechanisation.
