Big Science is an expression which relates to the progressions of adjustments and adaptations in the field of science. These progressions started during the World War II and are continue till today. These are the projects which are based on large scale and require funding from the government and in some cases more than one government is involved in particular project. Small science is different in a way that it is the research and development done by individual scientist or in some cases a small group of scientists and their work has significant importance in the world. It all started during the World War II, when first project started which has a significant importance in the beginning and development of ‘Big Science.’ That very first project is Manhattan Project is which atomic bomb was created and then experimented as well. Other examples of ‘Big Science’ projects included are related to Biochemistry and Genome.
Projects of ‘Big Science,’ their research and works require a large amount of verification. Such verifications and series of experiments and development need big level of investment and structure, which require large scale funding and government levels involved. They are different from ‘Small Science.’
Technological development was related to the warfare since long, but the Word War II is considered to be the “Physicists’ war.” This is because it led scientists to work in the development of war related item such as radar, or atomic bomb. At start big science was related to the developments in physics and astrology and later it started in the field of biological sciences. This type of research is done at the large scale with the heavy instruments and services and thus requires funding from governments or sometimes foreign agencies, which are interested in the development or the researches.
