Culture shapes itself through society and it plays an important role in making a’ man’ a ‘human –being’ by following the norms of the society. It makes a treasure of knowledge for keeping social relationships intact. It makes an individual socially strong for finding solutions for complicated situations. It broadens the outlook of the society, which is reflected on their attitude. It maintains the traditional interpretations to certain situation which proves to be the best solution for that situation. It defines the attitudes, values and ideas followed and shared by all the members of the society and forms behavioural patterns for the individuals and the society as a whole.
According to Arnold, culture is ‘the best that has been thought and said in the world’. Leavis believed that culture is the language, changing idioms on which the living depends & according to him culture is the use of such language and idioms in life.
