Prior to discussing the China Australia Free Trade Agreement, it is important to know the significance of entering into such an agreement. An international free trade agreement, as defined in economics is an agreement that is enforced because of the co-operation between at least two countries for the reduction of trade barrier such as restriction on import and tariffs to enable growth of trade with each other. In 2005, both the governments of China and Australia had announced that they would start a formal negotiation of a bilateral agreement which if concluded successfully would lead to removal of the barriers to free flow of Trade and would flourish bilateral investment opportunities. After a decade of intense discussions Prime Minister Abbott of Australia and President Xi of China have proclaimed the conclusion of negotiations for the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement on 17th Novemeber’2014. A Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and Australia is a very big achievement, because all the factors indicate that with the right structure and agenda, the economic links between these two nations are going to increase and would diversify. In spite of the achievement of the moment, we have to acknowledge that FTA is a deal which would set defined rules for trade. Before the agreement was signed, the businesses were not aware on cases which would figure as a penalty or a violation. With FTA introduced, there would be stronger boundaries on the permissibility and the impermissibility and would also instil a sense of external refereeing which would judge fair and unfair practices.
