Empowerment Initiatives: Nike has been very instrumental in empowering young patients (11-14 years), adolescent and poor girls through its empowerment programs over the years. The staff members of Nike has been very generous in training young patients in hospital in the design aspects of clothing and the revenue generated through this process is used to finance the hospital itself. In collaboration with the World Bank, Nike Inc. has set up Nike Foundation which actively works in training adolescent girls and equip them with technical skills for their financial empowerment. It also contributed around $ 100 million for an initiative by Novo Foundation which was aimed at protecting girls from child marriages, poverty and social abuses. Also in 2007, Nike School Innovation Fund was initiated by the organization in order to impart quality education to emerging young minds of the nation, so that they grow up as responsible and productive citizens of the country.Community Support: Nike partnered with UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) and organized a campaign to raise awareness on several issues and providing financial resources to refugees.
These financial asset being generated was used to impart education and sports opportunities through refugee sports quota. Various life and leadership skills seminars were arranged for the youths and through this initiative Nike was able to promote general welfare of the community. Additionally, a donation of $175,000 million was given by Nike to organize a one day event for disabled persons that was similar to Olympics. In 2004, Nike donated about $ 1 million to earthquake and tsunami victims in South East Asia and Eastern Africa through various channels of non-profit organizations working there to help the victims. Nike has also been at the forefront in motivating teachers in various schooling institutions to offer quality and good education to below poverty line students. To further enhance their abilities to for such causes, Nike started giving awards sponsored by Jordan Brand to such enthusiastic teachers.
