Chris Hanson and Hendrika Sossenberg’s famous piece of painting known as “The Way Things are” and “Lace Up” by Ilan Sandler have been taken into account here for comparison and contrasting the visual elements and the two different message from two different backgrounds and scenarios. From the sculpture of “The Way Things are”, it is clearly visualized that three anthropomorphic streetlamps or lampposts are the core visual elements. One of these has fallen down to the ground, whereas beside it another lamppost stands titled giving an impression of “Got Drunk and Fell Down”. The third one is at some distance which is called “Fountain”. The entire structural model illustrates an abstract idea which is present on the Harbour walk at Halifax in Nova Scotia. The diptych “Got Drunk, Fell Down” is about the lying lamppost and the one that is freestanding and looking at it with disgust mindset. Whereas, the third piece stands over at the wharf edge with posture of biological function which suggests that the third lamppost is about to perform a nature’s call. Steel and glass are mainly utilized for the structural model but apart from the drunk and fallen situation, the structures also represent a little off-ness with a humorous viewpoint.

However, it is a thought-provoking sculpture that reflects the off-ness associated with the situation. The polystyrene work of insulation with the life-sized figures gives the idea of human beings within these lampposts present on the sidewalk. On the other hand, the above figure is well-known as Lace Up which was sculptured by the famous artist of South Africa Ilan Sandler. The sculpture conveys the sole message of feelings related to freedom and liberty. The structure illustrates the sense of free will which many of the citizens feel while they use Oval. All the individuals have a tendency of tracing the elliptical trails when they move across the Oval with wearing skates or roller blades or else when they are on foot. An aerial path can be perceived by looking closely towards the sculpture which is created by the intricate work of Sandler which exploits the shoes as well as skate laces so that a sense of weightlessness can be felt on the aerial path. It is the specialty of this artwork which is brilliantly designed.
