The internet usage has really been high in the last five days. It accounted to about 12 hours and the five days taken for analysis fell on weekdays (Monday – Friday). For quick access to data such as social media, mails and songs, I have made use of my smartphone. However, I have used laptop for longer hours and researches were done for my projects using this device. No other devices were used apart from smartphone and laptop. In general, I come home only in the evenings around 4:30PM. The usage patterns revealed that 8PM-9PM is the time when I have regularly used the internet. Although there were times when internet was used in the morning (on Tuesday) and evening (on Thursday), these were only exceptions. During these times, I either get involved in projects assigned by my teacher or I chat with my friends. The devices vary but the purpose is almost the same.
The online activities vary greatly depending on the day’s schedule. It is also influenced by my mood on that day and tasks allotted by my teacher. If there is a project allotted by my teacher, I look for specific content that will fetch details about the same. I do not use it for any other purpose. In the rare case when my mood is down, I go for some entertainment such as songs. On the first day of observation (Monday), I noticed that I also did a purchase of apparel on the web. There is a high dependency towards content generated by other users. Be it the reviews for travel destinations or apparel purchase or preparation for my DIY project as instructed by the teacher, I have a high degree of dependency towards usage of external user generated content. Hence, I tend to be the consumer in this case (Careaga, 2012). It was astonishing to note the usage patterns with strong dedication towards social media.
