Waste Management is one of the most important environmental activities. It is an important process which helps in maintaining the cleanliness in the environment. In the recent times it has been observed that there have been a number of cleanliness issues around the Pickering College. In order to check these issues, we ventured around the college campus and identified that there are significant places such as at the back of the canteen, outside the hostels and other places where a significant process for the purpose of cleanliness is to be implemented. After doing the research on the same, we came to a conclusion that it is important to implement waste management plans in the college. After investigation of a number of waste management plans, the treatment which was found to be the most effective one was Pyrolysis. Pyrolysis can be defined as the treatment which includes the thermo chemical decomposition of organic material at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen. In this process, the simultaneous change of the chemical composition and physical phase is carried out. It is an irreversible process.Pyrolysis is one such treatment which can be effectively used for the solid wastes. It is a method which not only does the treatment of the waste in an effective manner but it also helps in the production of effective fuels (Demirbas et al, 2004). In the college campus and the areas around the same, a number of places have been observed where plastic waste is lying useless. Plastic wastes come from each and every thing which is being used by us.

Also, when these untreated plastic wastes interact with the landfills and the water around the same, it interacts and leads to the formation of hazardous chemicals. These chemicals contaminate the soils. Burning of the untreated plastic is much more harmful as it releases poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere.
