At the same time, culture does not remain stationary, but is dynamic(Latané, 1996). Folk (1993) emphasizes that a long period of overseas living experience will impact the national culture of individuals in many ways. Consequently, many international students describe their overseas studying experiences as a life changing moment(Le, LaCost, & Wismer, 2016). The dynamic nature of national culture gives the aviation industry a chance to enhance the safety by using interventions to lower power distance, promote cooperation, and increase uncertainty avoidance(Helmreich, 1984; Helmreich et al., 2001; Kanki, Helmreich, & Anca, 2010).However, there is not much research about cross-cultural differences in initial pilot training, and there are fewer studies to confirm the training that would be necessary in order to bring foreign students’ expression of power distance, individualism, and uncertainty avoidance closer the those of the local host culture。

This study will address the cultural issues among the Chinese student pilots who received initial flight training in different countries. The research will study a number of characteristics that have been attributed to national culture based on the work of Hofstede (1980), and assess whether there are differences in national culture traits between student pilots who have trained in China and those who have trained in other locations. The study attempts to identify those variables that contribute to the change of national culture traits. The study may serve to stimulate discussion on this vital issue and, it can potentially be expanded to other aviation professional training programs. Other training programs include flight attendant training, air traffic controllers training, recurrent training, type rating, etc.
