Formal gatekeepers help in facilitating effective interactions between the tourists and the international tourism agencies. They work for aiding the communities. Tourism agencies, sales executives and government organizations serve as coordinators and are uniquely positioned for commenting on special features of the tourism industry (Hall & Page, 2014). Informal gatekeepers constitute a group of individuals struggling to reconcile the moral and applied dilemmas of “making a difference” in the tourism experience (Christian, 2012). Different tourism experiences make a difference in their representations of the place, profit margins, and sense of self and purpose that is also experienced by the tourists of the various other sectors (Jarvis & Stephens, 2015). Both the formal and informal gatekeepers juggle with the contradictory goals they have like that of providing satisfaction to the tourists, the economic feasibility of the placement business of their employer, the project beneficiary’s charitable aims, and dealing with increased tensions between the philanthropic and commercial aims (Anttiroiko, 2012, p.7). Gatekeepers encounter various social, economic, cultural, community environment, and natural issues while dealing and assessing the various types of tourists.

Gatekeepers convey effective tourism experiences instead of supplying services directly. The services of the gatekeeper serve two main purposes of providing information to tourists and marketing and promoting the region for potential and actual tourists (Platenkamp, 2015).The impressions for the destination are constructed by the intense interaction between the tourists and gatekeepers. The gatekeepers can promote the images of familiarity of a destination and its strangeness while acting to mitigate formal gatekeeper’s expert knowledge distribution in the travel and tourism industry (Amersdorffer, Bauhuber & Oellrich, 2012, p. 179). This will help in producing the stereotyped image of the various other cultures. Volunteer Tourism in Peru is responsible and a kind of home-stay tourism in which visitors stays in the homes of the local individuals belonging to rural areas of greatly developing countries (Jarvis & Stephens, 2015, p.56). This kind of tourism acts as an effective alternate for mass tourism. Tourism in Peru has improved because of the principles of sustainable development (Hall & Page, 2014).
