The organization Abercrombie & Fitch is an established retail company that initially specialized in Sports and Utility goods. It was first introduced in the retail business in the year 1892. In its initial years, under the one-upmanship of Mr. David T. Abercrombie, the organization used to manufacture camping equipment. Mr. Ezra H. Fitch, who was one of the most valuable customers of the company, later collaborated in the business.
Even if Fitch had bought a significant share of the company, the partnership did not last long due to conflicting issues faced by both the men in running the business. In 1917, the company was sold to new trading partners, and gradually it started developing more, though initial setbacks because of the stubbornness in the refusal of price reduction of the sale items (Benn, Dunphy and Griffiths, 2014). There have been many changes in partnerships and ownerships in this organization, and the prime manufactured goods were juggled from one to another as well. Gradually, from sports & utility products, the company has recently shifted its focus into casual apparel and teen retail market, targeting the teen demographic.
Finally, in 1999, Abercrombie & Fitch had attained the pride of an independent organization and emerged as The Limited Inc. divested the company from its business portfolio.Retail business is highly competitive and cyclical. More and more organizations are emerging in, and the value chain of a business depends on its flexibility more and more. Over the past decade, the technology has experienced rapid advancement and has aided in the physical and digital channels to become more challenging every passing day (Brockett and Rezaee, 2013). Amongst these conditions, where the economic market was becoming competitive, the consumers were becoming more and more aware of prices. After suffering through a few losses, Abercrombie & Fitch started operating three different apparel brands to bounce back into the business. These were Abercrombie & Fitch, Abercrombie kids, and Hollister.
