For this essay the most difficult part was the selection of the movie so depiction of the movie can be developed. For this essay Charlie Chaplin’s work has been identified specifically the work in the film City lights. He was not only a person who developed the ideas of silent films can be “interesting” but also has presented with some of the most popular and inspiring works of all times. Kamin (2008) commented that a real character has a unique personality that makes him different from other characters so it is better to have an interesting one. The character is wearing a comfortable pair of old shoes giving a spring look. The audience would enjoy the humorous character and the special effects with in the movie even more, if the character portrays him to be funny in a way that the audience has never seen before. In the screen, the expression of the creator has to be given to the audience immediately, because there is no turning back in movie. It is not like reading a book where we can reread the last page again. Every filmmaker just wants to grab the attention of its audience for 10 minutes. Throughout the essay the main parts will revolve around the works of Chaplin and how has he influenced the audience. Flom (1997) commented that the transition from silent films to sound films will be discussed in the essay. Chaplin describes his early film career by saying that, “Actions and effects are necessary however the movie should have a point cut that makes the audience feel the situation of the story.” (Flom, 1977). The best way to achieve this is through one character whom the audience is familiar with or whom the audience likes to watch frequently. This character could be heroic or of a villain, as long as he owns such characteristics of what people associate with and understand as well as agree the problem coming across in the story.
