In the United States, Tourism is a trillion dollar industry. The travel and tourism industry is considered to be one of the largest sectors in the United States. It makes a total contribution of 1.47 trillion U.S. dollars to GDP for the fiscal year 2012-2013 (Murphy, 2013). It has been forecasted that this industry would reach 2.5 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of 2025 (Murphy, 2013). This includes the direct and the indirect revenues generated owing to the development of the tourism industry. The facets that are involved in the transportation industry are transportation costs, lodging and accommodation costs, meals served in the restaurant, entertainment & recreational activities and miscellaneous items. It was found that from the fiscal year 2008, domestic and international travelers spent around 772.5 billion U.S. dollars (Mariani et al., 2013). There are two types of consumers for this industry they are the domestic travelers and the international travelers. Travel agents make accommodations and reservations based on the requirement of the consumers. There are a number of online portals that also functions for the same purpose. But travel agents make it easy to customize the requirements of the people (Mariani et al., 2013). Modern consumers are looking for unique experiences and travel agents and tourism companies promises to deliver the experiences and unique experience for the consumers.
