Brooks in his book Clothing Poverty pointed out the contradiction between export plant situated in Yorkshire and Oxfam’s Waste-saver sorting. He also addresses the global role of charity as being the anti-poverty campaign and other development organizations. Oxfam in his research has addressed the issue of second hand clothing by establishing an enterprise in Senegal of processing and sorting clothes in order to avoid any kind of middlemen. He also determines the historical as well as contemporary economy related to the garment sector in his chapters. This could be seen when he analyzed the history of cotton industry (but not any kind of synthetic and natural fibre or fabric) and also looked into the economic and political background of Mozambique. In his very first chapter, Brooks provides the insight about the origin and development of denims and how some people are exploited through it. Some of the earlier studies on complete mapping of second hand clothes have been done by many scholars such as Catherine Barber and Sally Baden in West Africa, Lynn Milligram research based on Philippines and Karen Hansen’s research based on Zambia.

But, Brooks’s Clothing Poverty revealed that the story does not end here. His analysis shows that most of the donated clothes are shipped and sent to poor countries to be sold. Thus the second hand garment trend is spanning over the globe. Brooks could possibly become successful in stating the problem, but could not provide the possible solution for the problem.
